Chosen where nitrogen recovery from cheaper carriers is unreliable and a nitrided chromium carrier gives a more predictable response.
Available at several nitrogen levels, including FeNCr3-A, FeNCr3-B, FeNCr6-A, FeNCr6-B, FeNCr10-A and FeNCr10-B, so nitrogen and carbon can be balanced to the melt practice.
